'OneApp Secret Folder' lets you conceal a folder and its contents. It provides you with an easy and fast way to protect documents and avoid them being seen, modified, or erased by other users (either on a network or uninvited!). The program is really simple to use and can be protected with a password for extra security.
2) System requirements
'OneApp Secret Folder' requires Mac OS version 7.1 or later.
3) What's new?
• The new 'Get info' window displays information about the selected folder as the creation date and time, modification date and time, number of enclosed folders and files, size of the folder.
• Fixed a bug that caused errors when choosing a non-local folder.
• Some minor bug fixes.
4) How do I use it?
Using 'Secret Folder' is really simple: the main window of the program has two buttons and a check box.
Choosing the folder you wish to conceal: Use the button 'Choose Folder' to choose the folder that you want to hide. A standard folder icon representing the selected folder will appear in the centre of the window (if the software 'AppleScript' is installed, you can open the selected folder by clicking its icon).
For protection in normal use, it is not possible to choose the System Folder or any of its reserved folders: for example the Extensions or Preferences folders. However, it is possible to make the program allow you to select one of these folders by holding down the Shift key while you click on the 'Choose Folder' button. Be warned that hiding the System Folder or any of its reserved folders could cause your computer not to work correctly (if at all!), hence this is only an option for very expert users.
Making the selected folder invisible: To conceal the selected folder (with all its contents), click on the 'Make Invisible' button. If you wish to hide more than one folder or item, create a suitcase folder to put them all in, and then make that invisible. Once any folder is made invisible, the button will automatically change to 'Make Visible', so to make that folder appear again, simply click on the button.
Using a password: The 'Require Password' check button lets you protect the program with a password. If this option is selected, at the opening of 'Secret Folder' a password dialog box will be displayed. To gain access to the program it will be necessary to enter the correct password.
To reset the program: Under 'File' in the menu bar, 'Reset' returns the program to its inceptive state (no folder selected and the password option deselected). You may also activate this command by clicking on the icon representing the selected folder while holding the Option key down.
Getting info about the selected folder This feature let you get info about the selected folder, the information includes creation date and time, modification date and time, number of enclosed folders and files, size of the folder. Choose 'Get Info' under the 'File' menu or press Command-I.
Security: 'Secret Folder' uses the functionality of the Mac OS to make folders and files invisible. Programmers, hackers and specially experienced users could, with particular expertise, gain access to a folder made invisible by 'Secret Folder'. However, for the very great majority of users, any folder made invisible with 'Secret Folder' becomes inaccessible and secure. Please be warned that there are some applications that let you open also the files contained in a folder made invisible.
5) Limitations of the unregistered version
